TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport is set to reopen Terminal 1A in early April in line with the surge in the airplane passengers number ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Terminal 1A, which accommodates Lion Air, Super Air Jet, AirAsia, and Airfast airlines, was temporarily shut down in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Because we realize that in the near future we will meet events that will definitely lead to higher traffic as there will be Eid homecoming,” said the international airport’s Executive General Manager Agus Haryadi to Tempo on Monday, March 28.
The airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang, also planned to activate Terminal 1B by referring to the daily traffic data.
Agus recorded that the number of passengers for the last 15 days skyrocketed by 100 percent after the government abolished the travel requirements of RT-PCR and antigen tests for domestic passengers and eased quarantine policy for foreign travelers.
Based on the data, Agus outlined, the total movement of passengers at the airport managed by PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) reached 115,000 people per day. Meanwhile, the daily aircraft traffic reached 65 percent compared to that in 2019.
“The traffic frequency has not yet returned to normal. The normal figure is 180,000-200,000 people per day,” Agus said of the passengers' traffic in Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
